We now have a backing-track. The only issue we're having is that, where the music gets dramatic is too late on and takes too long for the rest of the sequence to get to which, is fine because we can still edit the track so that it comes in sooner but it's just quite tricky to get it exactly right.
Another sound issue we're having is even though you should be able to hear the water running right from when Freya walks through the door, you can't hear it until she gets to the top of the stairs. Ideally, we would be able to make the water really quiet at the beginning and have it gradually get louder but it's difficult to get it right with the music running over the video as well. At the moment we're using a clip that we recorded of a bath running but we're going to use a clip off the internet and see if that makes any difference.
Affects wise, we've been playing around with the timing and duration of clips. Putting clips in slow motion, speeding them up, playing them backwards, etc. We've come up with our final ideas for how we want the video to look overall so next week I think the plan is to play the whole first part of the video backwards.

Diary Entry: Editing 2
This week, we have started putting affects on our clips. For example, in the scenes where Luke is drowning Freya in the bath, we've edited this sequence so that the clips have been compiled in a choppy kind of way. As we didn't get a great shot of Freya actually being pushed into the bath, we've made it so that each time a clip cuts to the next, there has been a dramatic enough difference. To make it more dramatic and to make it look/ flow more smoothly, we've put a 'Dip to Black' between each clip change.
At the moment, we're not too worried about the affects on the production as we just want the editing done really well. We want to make sure we have all the clips cutting to the next smoothly and make sure they aren't going on for too long before the cut. This was something we could've improved on in our Preliminary Challenge.
Once we've edited all the clips together and we have a smooth running video - that's when we'll start doing all the colour grading, adding in affects, music, etc.

Diary Entry: Editing 1
Today was the first day of production. We've gone through all of the clips we filmed and have decided which ones we're thinking of using and compiled them into a rough sequence. Previously, we had the issue of the clips we filmed outside being unusable because you can't hear the speech over the wind. So, we have now decided that instead of re-filming or doing a voice over, we're just not going to use them as actually, they're not especially needed anyway.
The only problem we now still have is the fact that in the beginning , before Freya starts running up the stairs in panic - she doesn't react. This is a problem because then it doesn't look like she has any reason to be running and then all of a sudden, she'd drowned and murdered? I think the only way to correct the sequence would be to film another clip to put in - after she walks through the door and before she starts running up the stairs.

Diary Entry: Filming
Last Saturday was our first day of filming for our opening sequence. We filmed for 5 hours from 10am until 3pm and although we had a very productive day and have nearly finished filming all of our production, we did encounter some problems throughout the day.
The main problem was the wind in the background whilst we were filming outside. We thought that we would be able to edit the sound to enhance the audio of the speech and bring down the background noise but now that we know we can't, we're either going to have to re-film the scenes outside or change the compilation of the opening sequence - which, is very frustrating, however now we know.
If we were to re-film the outdoor scenes, we would have to hire out a microphone that we would put on a boom pole so that we can get close to the source of the sound. We would also have to use a softie to cover the sound of the wind.
Alternatively, we could attempt to do a voice-over and mute the original sound, however this would be near on impossible to do due to the fact that firstly, the script was almost completely disregarded in these scenes and now no one would know exactly what they had said. But also, if this is were to be what we were to chose to do, it would be extremely difficult to match up the recorded audio to the video.
The next filming day we have we'll be finishing filming the clips of Luke during the drowning scene and possibly re-filming some of the outdoor clips. Either we will redo the ones already filmed or we will come up with a new idea that would work better than editing and our original footage.
